Step Into Chuuk

The Goal

The goal in Chuuk is to baptize and establish. This is done by working with the people one-on-one. Group classes can be effective, but true growth that lasts occurs when we work with each person individually. This costs more in time, but it:

- "makes disciples," and "teaches them to observe all things" Jesus commanded (Matthew 28:19)
- let us "establish (them) in every good word and work" (2 Thessalonians 2:17)
- enables us to "commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also" (2 Timothy 2:2).

Because of the slow nature of the Chuukese people to change, we find a lot of repetitive teaching is necessary. It's not that the method is slower or less effective, its just different based on the qualities of the people. In Chuuk, growth of the individual members in faith is critical to the growth of the church. The new baptisms will not come unless the church is established. Therefore, we work one-on-one, house-to-house and soul-to-soul. The church in Chuuk is growing, and Lord willing, she will continue to do so.

Trips to Chuuk

I (Joey) travel to Chuuk alone one week every two to three months. Chuuk is like a third-world country in its development, so we don't take the children there. Trips to Chuuk allow me to encourage, strengthen, teach and build up the brethren while searching for new contacts for Bible studies.
