Overseeing Elders
The elders of the Forest Park church of Christ in Forest Park, Georgia oversee our work in an excellent way. They stay personally involved in the oversight and do not let us go "out of sight, out of mind."
Overseeing a missionary is a lot of work, but the elders do not shy back from the responsibility. In addition to managing our accounts, they make it a point to keep in regular communication with us. Of course there is the monthly newsletter we write, but we also have regular emails with the elder over missions. In those emails the elders want to know how the work is going, how the family is doing and what challenges and blessings we are facing. They always assure us they are there for us and are ever available.
On even years, we go to the states and report to our supporting congregations. During this time, one week is set aside for the Elders/Missionaries Workshop. All of the elders and all of the missionary overseen by them spend a week together analyzing and improving the work. This is a wonderful time which we cherish. Not only does it allow us to work closely with our elders, it also enables us to see them socially in a relaxed atmosphere. Then, on the odd years, one of the elders comes out to the islands to see the work first-hand.
